Oliver

My name is Oliver and I am from Quito, Ecuador and am majoring in Voice Performance at DU. I am currently a cast member of this years’ opera production of “The Marriage of Figaro” at DU’s Lamont School of Music. I have also been and continue to be very active in chorale performances with my colleagues, and participate in a few recitals here and there. Last but not least, I am a new member of the all-male a Capella group “High St. Serenade” formed by some dear friends from the music school.

Marhaba/Hello!
My name is Dareen, I am a senior at the University of Denver majoring in Finance with a double minor in Accounting and International Studies. I was born in Amman, Jordan but I grew up in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. I consider both of these places home, as I have equally lived in both of them. On campus, I am involved with the Center of World Language and Cultures (CWLC) where I tutor Arabic for non-speakers. I love that DU is small enough where you get to make friends, and big enough where you don’t know everyone. Fun fact about myself is I met Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan, it was precious as she is my idol. My advice to international students is to get involved on campus, because that’s how you meet people with similar and dissimilar interests and passions. If you have any questions or comments for me, I would love to chat more with you in person or online.

My name is Chris Chen, I was born and raised in Szechuan, China. This is my fourth year living in the United States. I am studying international business at Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. I love learning about different cultures around the world. That is why I am involved in the International Living and Learning Community (ILLC) at DU, where I can make friends with those who have same interests as me. I am also involved in the DU e-sport team and play League of Legends against other colleges in the US. I also play basketball and swim at DU Richie Center in my free time. Coming to DU is a great experience in which I got a chance to challenge myself academically and enjoyed what the Colorado and DU campus offer me. And by the way, I like our cafeteria food a lot! Feel free to ask me questions about my DU experience!

Olivia Bio Pic 1Olivia

Hey everyone! My name is Olivia and I am an international student and freshman at DU. I moved to the U.S. in September 2017, so I guess that makes me a relatively new to the country and the culture. I am an undeclared major (hoping to change that very soon to Fine Arts). My hobbies include drawing and listening to music. I am quite shy so I do not often get to express myself in speech as much as I do in writing. That’s why I jumped at the opportunity to blog for the Office of International Student Admission. This is not just a blog about my personal experiences and thoughts. It is meant to inspire not only international students but anyone and everyone. Living away from home is not always easy, especially when you have to handle the ups and downs of college. That’s why it is nice to know that someone else may also be going through the same thing as you’re going through. My hope is that this blog will put a smile on your face whenever you read it. 😊

This is a picture of me in Milan, Italy. One of my many travels when I studied abroad in Sweden. I’m a third year biochemistry study. I’m part of the international Student Organization, South Asian Student Alliance and Muslims Student Alliance. Besides that, I work at the Housing Department on campus as well as I’m an undergraduate teaching assistant (UTA) for a chemistry lab. I’m also the Head of the Marketing committee for the upcoming CultureFest!
