Dear World,
Whether you are looking for an opportunity to job shadow, intern, or work full time post-graduation, you should be definitely considering Colorado. With the help of Toni Gabrielli, Assistant Director of the Daniels Undergraduate Career Services at the University of Denver, we were able to work together and gather recent reports that show Colorado is the place to be. With that being said, I will let the reports do the talking.
Why Denver
To start off, the U.S. News and World Report confirmed that Denver is #3 for best places to live. This evaluation stems from the fact that Denver features a list of research institutions, including the University of Denver. As well, the Mile High City has a low unemployment rate of 2.6% compared to the national average of 4% . The annual average salary in Denver is $55,900, which is higher than the national average salary of approximately $49,600.
Moving on, BizJournals ranked Colorado the #1 best economy state. DU need another reason?
Resources
Pionner Connect is a gross roots networking community launched by DU to connect current students to DU alumnis worldwide. On the other hand, an alternative to connect with alumnis is to reach out to the Career center that located in different colleges throughout the campus. On campus there are several career services: one offers general career services for all students, which is located in south side of campus, the other career services office are located at different colleges such as Daniels Business of College, Sturm Office of Career Development & Opportunities, and Social work Career Services.
If you are looking to get that one internship, why not get connected with a DU alum who can help you get there?
Entrepreneurship
For all the entrepreneurs out there, Colorado’s start up scene is growing, so why not grow along with it? Specifically, University of Denver offers an introductory course to all majors called, “Gateway to Business”, in this class students are required to form teams and pitch a Startup idea and follow with it until it is fully developed. From there, six of the top teams are chosen to compete in the Madden Challenge. Winners of the Madden Challenge get monetary funding from donors to fully process/develop the application and put it in App/Android stores.
Opportunities in Colorado
Lastly, the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade highlights why companies choose to invest in Colorado. With Colorado’s exceptional economic advantages paired with our driven workforce, world-class research institutions, accessible location, and business-friendly government, we sure are the crowd’s favorite.
Sincerely,
International Student
